Paul Hansen is a multi-award-winning photojournalist from Stockholm, Sweden. His assignments for daily broadsheet Dagens Nyheter and his self-initiated projects take him all over the world — or just around the corner. As well as photography, Paul writes and works with the moving image to high acclaim. Whichever form they take, his stories seek to explore the depths of human emotion with compassion and journalist integrity.

His visual storytelling has seen him collect some of photography’s top prizes, including international “Picture of the year” - twice, and “Photographer of the Year” in Sweden nine times. He was nominated for the Swedish “Pulitzer Prize” in 2017 and 2023.  Other awards include; POYi's “Photographer of the year - Newspaper” 2010 and 2013, “World Press Photo” 2012, second place in POYi “Photographer of the year” 2015 and second place in World Press Photo “General News” 2016. 

 In 2024, he received Picture of the Year International’s (POYi) Award of Excellence for "Photographer of the Year,” and for his work covering the Israel-Hamas war, as well as first prize in POYi “International news story of the year” category. He won second place in NPPA’s “General News,” “Feature" "Photographer of the Year” categories. Paul has had two major photography exhibitions (2017 and 2018) at Sweden’s premiere photo museum, Fotografiska, in Stockholm. To date, Paul has published two books with Max Ström / Bonnier publishing – “Being There” and “Människa, människa”.
